What Does It Mean to Be Anointed for Service?
This past Sunday at Rhema South Coast Family Church, Pastor Larry Elliott shared a powerful word about stepping into your God-given purpose. The message? You are anointed for service, and now is the time for your turnaround!
The foundation of the sermon came from 2 Corinthians 6:1-10 (MSG), where Paul reminds us not to squander the life God has given us. He says, “Now is the right time to listen, the day to be helped.”
The anointing isn’t a mystical force—it’s God’s power working through you. It equips you to conquer the day, overcome challenges, and walk boldly in your calling.
Show Up Daily with Faith
A key takeaway from Sunday’s message was simple yet profound: show up daily.
We often wait for big signs from God, but Pastor Larry reminded us that God’s voice isn’t always in the wind, earthquake, or fire—it’s in the still, small voice (1 Kings 19:12 NKJV). When Elijah finally quieted his heart, he could hear God clearly.
Just like Elijah, we must:
- Get up and do something.
- Plan ahead and stay diligent.
- Conquer each day with faith.
Your turnaround starts when you stop waiting and start trusting God’s daily guidance.

Obedience Unlocks the Anointing
Obedience is central to walking in your anointing.
In 2 Kings 9:1-3 NKJV, Elisha tells a young prophet to anoint Jehu as king. The prophet obeys immediately, and that obedience sets off a chain reaction—Jehu’s friends honor him, his enemies fear him, and God’s plan unfolds.
When you obey God, even when it doesn’t make sense, His anointing flows. It impacts:
- Your Friends — They rise up to support you.
- Your Encounters — God uses you to inspire others.
- Your Enemies — They can’t stop God’s purpose.
- High Places — Strongholds in your life crumble.
Ask yourself: Am I listening to the still, small voice and obeying quickly?
Led by the Holy Spirit
Another crucial point from Pastor Larry’s sermon was being led by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:14 NKJV says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
You can’t experience a turnaround without the Spirit’s guidance. Sometimes we drift off course, but the Holy Spirit always helps us recover. When you ask Him to lead you, He reveals God’s will for your life.
Practical steps to follow the Holy Spirit:
- Pray daily, inviting the Holy Spirit into every decision.
- Stay sensitive to His direction, even in small things.
- Trust that He’s working, even when you can’t see it.
Guard Your Heart, Mouth, and Actions
To walk fully in the anointing, you must guard three areas:
- Your Heart
- “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord…” (Psalm 37:23 NKJV)
- Know who you are in Christ. Your identity is rooted in Him, not in people’s opinions.
- Your Mouth
- “Let the words of my mouth… be acceptable in Your sight…” (Psalm 19:14 NKJV)
- Speak life over yourself and others. Your words shape your reality.
- Your Actions
- “Walk worthy of the calling… with all lowliness and gentleness…” (Ephesians 4:1-2 NKJV)
- Your actions must reflect God’s love. Be intentional about how you treat people.
When you guard these areas, you make space for God’s anointing to move powerfully.
Don’t Lose Heart
The road to a turnaround isn’t always easy. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV: “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”
Feeling weary? Don’t give up. God’s anointing is at work, even when you feel weak. Keep pushing forward. Your turnaround is closer than you think.
Final Thoughts
You are anointed for service. The time for your turnaround is now. Show up daily, obey God, and walk in step with the Holy Spirit. Guard your heart, words, and actions, and trust that God’s plan will unfold in your life.

A Prayer for Your Turnaround
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for anointing me for service. I choose to show up daily, listen to Your still, small voice, and obey Your Word. Holy Spirit, lead me in every step. Guard my heart, my words, and my actions. I trust that my turnaround is here. Help me walk in Your purpose and be a light to those around me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
