Christ’s Legacy | It’s More Than You Think!

A slide with images depicting Christ's Legacy

Hey church family, did you enjoy the amazing service about Christ’s Legacy we had on the 30th of March, 2025? What a powerful way to wrap up our Legacy series!

Ps Mandy kicked us off with the offering, reminding us of a verse in Luke 6:38 – Give, and it will be given to you. She made such a good point about how when we truly trust God, we give freely, because, at the end of the day, everything we have comes from Him anyway.

Then, before Ps Larry’s sermon, we took communion together. It’s always a powerful moment, hey? Remembering Jesus’ perfect sacrifice, His body and blood that brought our healing, deliverance, victory, and forgiveness. It grounds us and reminds us of Who we belong to.

Now, let’s get to the heart of the matter: Christ’s Legacy.

Ps Larry’s sermon was all about unpacking just how incredible and, let’s be honest, supernatural, the legacy Jesus left us is. It’s not just some ordinary inheritance; it’s something else altogether!

Christ’s Legacy | Our Identity is Bound to God

One thing that stood out for me was how Ps Larry emphasised that our identity is completely bound to God. It’s not about what the world says about us, but who God says we are. Jesus taught us about the Kingdom of God, and at the core of it all is love – love for God and love for others.

Think about it church:

“Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:37-39 NKJV)

Jesus taught that the greatest commandments are love for God and love for others. His unconditional love is central to our identity. Unlike the world’s love, which is temporary, God’s love never fails or quits. Our challenge? To extend this unwavering love to others and reflect Christ’s heart in everything we do.

That’s the foundation, people. Love. Not the watered-down version the world throws around, but that unconditional, never-fails, never-gives-up kind of love.

God is Love

What Did Jesus Leave Us? | Christ’s Legacy

Ps Larry asked a powerful question: What did Jesus leave us? And the answer is mind-blowing. It’s not just indescribable and incredible, it’s supernatural!

He took us to Matthew 11:10: “For this is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.’” (Matthew 11:10 NKJV)

Then things got really hectic! The Pharisees were outraged when Jesus declared that even the least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than John the Baptist:

“Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” (Matthew 11:11 NKJV)

Can you believe that? Ps Larry explained that Jesus was saying that even the least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than John the Baptist! John, who was this wild man, living in the wilderness, eating locusts, and wearing animal skins, was considered greater than Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!

And anyone who follows Jesus is even greater than John! Eish! That’s something to think about, hey? Ps Larry also touched on the spirit of Elijah and the fulfillment of biblical prophecy. It’s all connected, and it’s all part of this incredible legacy.

Contending for Your Inheritance

But here’s the thing, guys:

“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” (Matthew 11:12 NKJV)

To walk in Christ’s inheritance, you’ve got to contend for it. You’ve got to stand on the Word and do the Word. We need to put our flesh down and be led by the Spirit.

As 1 Timothy 1:18-19 says:

“This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck,” (I Timothy 1:18-19 NKJV)

The Multifaceted Legacy of Jesus

The legacy of Jesus Christ is deep and has many layers.

Firstly, there’s His sacrificial death and resurrection. This is the cornerstone of our faith, offering forgiveness and eternal life:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” (John 3:16-21 NKJV)

Secondly, Jesus left us a legacy of compassion, healing, and mercy. He showed us how to live a life that pleases God. Think about the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7 – pure gold!

Thirdly, He gave us the church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to continue His work and spread the message of hope and redemption.

And then there’s the Great Commission…

Ladder of success

The Great Commission | Our Legacy | Christ’s legacy

Jesus gave us the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV)

This is our legacy, church. It’s a call to:

  1. Obedience: Obedience isn’t just a once-off thing at salvation; it’s a lifestyle. Ps Larry made a good point about how a lot of preaching lately focuses on self-development, which isn’t bad, but it can lead to disobedience if that’s all there is.
    1. We’ve got to become before we can make and do. And we become through grace. When we’re obedient, we allow God to work in us.
  2. Evangelism: We are all called to share the good news! Whether it’s with the Uber driver, the person helping you at the audit, or the Spar worker, we’ve got to be witnesses. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just fill us; He regenerates our spirit and sets us on fire to be witnesses!

Disciples and Worship

  1. Disciple-making: It’s not just about getting people saved; it’s about making disciples. It’s about teaching, nurturing, and helping people grow in their faith. Ps Larry spoke about the ladder of success: win souls, consolidate them, disciple them, and then send them out to win more.
  2. Faith and Baptism: Baptism is a public declaration of our faith and our acceptance into the family of God. And faith, that legacy started way back with Abraham!
  3. Worship: This was a big one! Ps Larry said that the biggest thing holding back our breakthrough isn’t sin, but a lack of true worship. We often just go through the motions.

John 4:23-24 (TPT) says: “From now on, worshiping the Father will not be a matter of the right place but with a right heart. For God is a Spirit, and he longs to have sincere worshipers who adore him in the realm of the Spirit and in truth.”

Ps Larry explained that the Greek word for worship is “Proskuneo,” and we should do everything as an act of worship to God, even the stuff we don’t think is glamorous, like cleaning up dog poop!

We Are Not Alone

The amazing thing is that Jesus promised He’ll be with us always, until the very end. We’re not doing this on our own. We all have a global mission, and we’ve all been called by God for the Great Commission.

Christ’s legacy | Your Godly Vision

And here’s the key: legacy gets established when you have a godly vision. So, let’s leave Christ’s legacy of peace, joy, healing, and love.

What a word! It’s clear that Christ’s legacy calls us to action, especially in our worship and our obedience. This week, let’s be intentional about offering God true worship – not just going through the motions, but with all our hearts.

If you felt a tug at your heart during this message, respond to it! Maybe it’s time for water baptism, or to get involved in leading someone to Christ. Don’t delay – step into your calling!

Passing a bible to a pair of hands - a call to evangelism.

Let’s Pray:

Father, thank You for the legacy You have given us through Christ. Help us walk in obedience, evangelize boldly, and worship with our whole hearts. May we leave a lasting impact that reflects Your love and truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
