Embrace Your Turnaround | Decrease to Increase in 2025

Ps Larry Elliott being led by the Holy Spirit during the Sunday service

I am excited to share a powerful new season at Rhema South Coast Family Church. Our latest series, Time For Your Turnaround, marks a pivotal moment where we embrace both spiritual renewal, and intentional change. In our most recent service, we experienced something truly extraordinary—one that has set the tone for 2025.

A Divine Shift in Worship | Time for Your Turnaround

Spontaneous praise and worship

In the second service on Sunday, something remarkable happened. Rather than delivering a traditional sermon, the Holy Spirit took the lead. The church overflowed with life-changing prayer and anointing as people prayed for one another and others, following the gentle promptings of the Spirit. Only God and His Spirit can lead a church like this. I felt deeply encouraged by II Corinthians 6:1-2 (NKJV): “We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For He says: ‘In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” Every moment reminded me that the present is where God works His miracles, urging us to live in the “now” of His grace.

The spontaneous prayer sessions connected us as one body. I personally experienced a profound sense of God’s presence as each prayer lifted burdens and brought healing. I am grateful for these moments that have shown me the truth of Psalms 46:1 (NKJV): “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.” Here and now, God is actively working on our behalf.

The Gift of Decrease | Time for Your Turnaround

This season is not only about turning our focus to prayer and the present but also about embracing the gift of decrease. As John 3:30 (NKJV): “He must increase, but I must decrease.” reminds us, it’s not just about what we add to our lives but also what we remove. When we let go of distractions and negative influences, we make room for God’s blessings and His powerful anointing to manifest.

We have been led to reflect on a personal call from the Lord for our local church in 2025. This is a call to decrease what does not serve us so we can experience a true turnaround. Isaiah 58:8 (NLTSE): “Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the LORD will protect you from behind.”

When our motives are pure and our decisions aligned with His Word, light shines brightly on our path.

Seven Things to Quit in 2025 | Time for Your Turnaround

To help us grow spiritually and remain aligned with God’s heart, Ps Larry shared seven things we need to quit doing this year. These intentional changes will not only transform our personal lives but will lead us to live more powerfully in the Spirit’s anointing:

Things to Quit:

  1. Pouring Time into Things That Don’t Add Value
Distractions derail us from our purpose. We live in a society that craves and consumes endless entertainment. Instead, let’s focus on what truly matters. Ephesians 5:15-16 (AMPC): “Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise, making the very most of the time, because the days are evil.” Prioritise your vision and tasks that align with your goals.
  2. Hanging Out with the Wrong People
Surround yourself with those who uplift, challenge, and encourage you. The Bible warns against influences that derail our moral and spiritual growth. 1 Corinthians 15:33-34 (NLT): “Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for bad company corrupts good character.” Let’s choose our circle wisely.
  3. Criticising and Judging People
As followers of Christ, we are called to see others through His eyes—worthy of love and grace. Matthew 7:1-6 (NKJV) reminds us not to judge harshly but to extend compassion and constructive feedback. Let’s cultivate a culture of empathy and understanding.

More Things to Quit:

  1. Magnifying What’s Going Wrong
Instead of dwelling on challenges, let’s magnify the Lord. I was reminded by Psalms 34:3-4 (NKJV): “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.” to stay thankful and focused on what is good. Trust that God has overcome the world as John 16:33 (NKJV) assures us.
  2. Overdoing It
Embrace rest as a vital part of your spiritual and personal well-being. Reflect on the principles of Sabbath rest—Jesus is our ultimate Sabbath. Hebrews 4:1-3 (NKJV) teaches us that entering His rest requires faith and obedience. Avoid burnout by setting boundaries and delegating when necessary.
  3. Trying to Please Everyone
Stop seeking approval from others and focus on God’s validation. Galatians 1:10-12 (NKJV) reminds us that our aim should be to please God, not man. Embrace your God-given purpose and be authentic in your journey.
  4. Overthinking & Reasoning
Trust the Lord with everything. Proverbs 3:5-7 (NKJV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” There is immense freedom in releasing control and trusting God’s perfect plan.

Living in the Present | Decrease

Dwelling on past regrets or worrying about the future robs us of today’s blessings. God’s help is most potent in the present. Whatever you need—strength, wisdom, healing, or provision—know that the Lord is right there with you. His presence brings joy, peace, and an assurance that every moment is filled with potential.

As we prayed during our service, I felt the stirring of a personal turnaround—a shift from overthinking to simply resting in God’s promises. I now live with a renewed focus on His ever-present love and grace, knowing that His blessings are right in front of us every day.

Decrease to Increase | Embrace Your Turnaround

Remember, II Timothy 2:20-21 (NKJV): “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay… if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

We are excited to see where this journey takes us and how the Spirit will continue to guide us into deeper intimacy with God. This is our time, your moment to embrace your turnaround. Let’s step boldly into it together, living each day in the transformative presence of our loving and powerful God.

Prayer: Lord, help me stop investing in what doesn’t add value to my life. Guide me to surround myself with Your truth, embrace rest, and trust in Your perfect plan. May I decrease my distractions so that Your increase in my life becomes evident.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
