Legacy 2025 – A New Beginning
Happy day, Rhema South Coast Family! As we step into our exciting new series for 2025, “Legacy,” we are reminded of the profound influence our lives can have on future generations. This series kicked off with an impactful sermon by Ps. Larry Elliott on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
The text scripture for this series is taken from Joel 1:2-3. It speaks about the importance of passing down the stories of God’s greatness to the next generation.
March 1 marked the beginning of a new year for us here at Rhema South Coast Family Church. With that, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what legacy we are creating and leaving behind. The Prophet Joel, whose words we are reflecting on, called for Israel to remember and teach future generations about God’s power and faithfulness.
Let’s take a deeper look at the key messages from Ps. Larry’s sermon, and how they relate to us today.
The Call to Build a Legacy
Legacy isn’t just about material possessions; it’s about passing on the values, beliefs, and faith practices that have shaped our lives. Joel 1:2-3 challenges us to think about the spiritual inheritance we are leaving behind. The Prophet Joel calls the elders to pay attention and share God’s goodness with future generations. He encourages them to teach their children and their children’s children.
When we talk about legacy, we are talking about a spiritual legacy that transcends time. This legacy starts with family, continues with heritage, and must be built on truth. It’s about more than just providing for our families financially–it’s about making sure that the next generation knows and follows the truth of God’s word.

Impartation | A Key to Building a Godly Legacy
Impartation is a central theme in this sermon. To impart means to pass on wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. As we reflect on Joshua’s powerful declaration in Joshua 24:15 – “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” – we are reminded of the importance of making intentional choices.
Joshua’s words testify to the goodness of God. They highlight the critical decision we must make to serve the Lord, especially in a world full of distractions.
Ps. Larry emphasized that imparting God’s values to our children and others around us is a choice. It’s about rejecting the influences of materialism, pride, and self-serving agendas. These distractions can limit our ability to build a godly legacy. Every day, we have a choice to live in alignment with God’s purpose for us.
Family Values | The Foundation of Legacy
The family is the cornerstone of legacy. Ps. Larry pointed out that Jesus Himself demonstrated the importance of family, not just through His birth but in His actions. When Jesus was on the cross, He made sure that His mother was cared for by His disciple, John. This act of love and responsibility showed that family values are deeply embedded in the heart of God.
John 19:26-27 recounts the moment when Jesus, seeing His mother standing near the cross, entrusted her care to John, saying, “Woman, behold your son!” This act highlights the power of spiritual connection and community. It’s a reminder that our legacy is also about creating a culture of community within our families and church families.
As we embrace this Legacy series, let’s reflect on the values we are passing down to our children, both biological and spiritual. Let us nurture their relationship with God, as Deuteronomy 6:5-7 instructs us: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children.”
Vision and Mission | A Legacy Rooted in Purpose
As we move forward into this year’s theme, Legacy 2025, Ps. Larry reminded us of the importance of having a clear vision. Proverbs 29:18 teaches that “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint.” Without vision, we risk losing direction. But with a godly vision, we can walk with purpose, knowing where God is leading us.
Our legacy must be rooted in a mission—God’s mission. This vision is about more than just personal success; it’s about building worldwide revival and restoration. Acts 26:19 shares the testimony of Paul, who was obedient to the heavenly vision given to him. As believers, we are called to share that vision and make disciples, spreading the Gospel throughout the world.
Ps. Larry encouraged each of us to actively pursue God’s vision for our lives and our church. This isn’t just about our individual journeys, but about creating a global impact. The legacy we leave must foster spiritual awakening and discipleship. It must guide others to Christ.
Leaving a Lasting Impact
The sermon closed with a powerful challenge: How can we demonstrate our commitment to God and reflect His glory to others? We must nurture our own relationship with God. We must make His Word our standard and continually transform into the image of His Son, Jesus. As we do this, we become agents of change who leave a legacy that honors God and positively impacts those around us.
A Prayer for Legacy
As we continue our journey through the Legacy 2025 series, let’s pray together:
Father, we thank You for the legacy You have entrusted to us. Help us to build a spiritual inheritance that honors You and reflects Your love to future generations. Strengthen us to make intentional choices that align with Your purpose. May our families, our church, and our communities be blessed as we live out the truth of Your Word.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
