Extravagant Love | A Call to Unleash Your Anointing

Hello, beloved and extravagant Rhema South Coast family!

Isn’t it just amazing to gather together and experience the presence of the Lord? Last Sunday’s message, “Extravagant,” delivered with such passion and grace by Pastor Mandy, really stirred something deep within our hearts.

It’s like a call to action, a reminder that we’re all carrying something precious – an anointing – that’s just waiting to be poured out.

The Woman with the Alabaster Jar | Extravagant Love

Alabaster jar of perfume.

Think about that woman in Luke’s Gospel. She barges into a Pharisee’s house, no invitation needed, carrying an alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. In that culture, it was a bold, even scandalous move.

Her past was probably a topic of gossip, but in that moment, none of that mattered. All her focus was on Jesus.

Pastor Mandy painted such a vivid picture. The tears she used to wash Jesus’ feet, her hair that she used to dry them, the kisses she pressed upon Him – it was all so extravagant! And that perfume! That wasn’t just any old fragrance; it was a year’s wages worth of spikenard. It was her way of saying, “Jesus, you’re worth everything.”

What’s Your “Because”?

Pastor Mandy challenged us to think about our own “because.” Why do we do what we do? That woman’s “because” was her deep, overflowing love and gratitude for the forgiveness she’d received. “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love” (Luke 7:47 NLT).

That’s a powerful truth, my friends. When we truly grasp the extent of God’s grace, it changes everything. As Pastor Mandy said, it moves us from just having information in our heads to a real, heart-level revelation. It’s like a switch flips, and we can’t help but respond with that same extravagant love.

If you missed the service or want to relive the experience, you can catch the full sermon here.

No More Holding Back

Hands holding a heart - God's grace and love.

How often do we hold back, though? We worry about what people will think. We’re scared of looking foolish. But like David dancing before the Lord, we’re called to a higher standard!

“I was dancing before the Lord, who chose me above your father and all his family! …Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes!” (2 Samuel 6:21-22 NLT).

Pastor Mandy reminded us that true worship isn’t about performing for others–it’s about pouring our hearts out to the One who deserves it all. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, extravagance becomes our new normal.

A Call to Extravagant Generosity

Handing someone a loaf of bread - generosity.

This extravagant love isn’t just for our worship; it’s for our giving too. Pastor Mandy touched on this, and Pastor Ben expounded on it during the offering, drawing from 1 Kings 17:12-14. Remember the widow of Zarephath?

She was down to her last bit of flour and oil, yet Elijah asked her to bake him a cake first. It seemed impossible, but she obeyed, and God provided for her in abundance.

It’s that same principle Jesus talks about in Luke 6:38: “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back” (NLT).

Building for the Future

And speaking of giving, let’s talk about our new building! Ps Larry shared the vision, and it’s exciting! It’s not just bricks and mortar; it’s about expanding God’s kingdom and reaching more people with His love. It’s about leaving a legacy for generations to come.

God’s Heart | Always Extravagant

Ultimately, extravagance is at the very heart of God. As Pastor Mandy reminded us, God’s giving isn’t an afterthought; it’s His forethought. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” (John 3:16). That’s the ultimate picture of extravagance!

He chose us before the foundation of the world, adopted us into His family, and poured out His grace upon us. Everything He does is marked by this incredible, boundless love.

Unleash Your Anointing

Extravagant - Clouds with rays from sun - When-We-Move-from-Information-to-Revelation.

So, my dear Rhema South Coast family, let’s take this message to heart. Let’s break open our alabaster jars and pour out our anointing on the Lord and on those around us. Let’s give extravagantly, love extravagantly, and worship extravagantly.

Let’s become a church known for our extravagant devotion to Jesus.

A Prayer for Extravagant Living

Father, we thank you for your extravagant love that knows no bounds. Thank you for forgiving us, for setting us free, and for anointing us for your purpose. Help us, Lord, to live lives that reflect your generosity and grace.

Give us the courage to worship without reservation, to love without measure, and to give without expecting anything in return. May our lives be a fragrant offering to you, and may we leave a legacy of extravagant love for generations to come.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Stay blessed, Rhema South Coast family!

Ps Mandy Elliott
